Name: Elyce Burek Year: 5th Program: Bachelor of Commerce, International Business & Marketing Why 5 Days?: I have been exposed to poverty while working in Southeast Asia and have strived to do what I can to help those that can't help themselves. If 5 days helps the youth at YESS to finish school or find a good job then why wouldn't I donate my time? If you could compete in the Winter Olympics, what discipline would it be and why? Women's Bobsleigh.. I was inspired by Cool Runnings many years ago, and just want to have their awesome cheer!
Name: Ryan Johnson Year: Program: Bachelor of Commerce, Strategic Management and Organization Why 5 Days?: I'm participating in 5 Days for three primary reasons. First and foremost, I want to help bring attention to homelessness in the City of Edmonton. Secondly, I want to be part of the solution to this problem, and I can think of no better way of doing so than by raising money for Edmonton's Youth Emergency Shelter Society. Finally, I believe participating in 5 Days is an excellent opportunity for personal growth. It's a unique opportunity for me to step out of my comfort zone, test my limits physically, mentally, and emotionally, and to learn more about myself. If you could compete in the Winter Olympics, what discipline would it be and why? Ski Cross. I love downhill skiing. While I consider myself a powder hound, there's nothing quite like a warmup run on the groomers. I'm not overly committed to learning tricks, but I love side hits and cliffs. Fast turns, big drops, sounds like ski cross to me.
Name: Eric Howg Year: 2nd Program: Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting Why 5 Days?:I am participating because i want to help those that are not as well off as I am, and to experience some of what it is like to be in their shoes. If you could compete in the Winter Olympics, what discipline would it be and why? Any winter sport hmmm... I would probably go with Curling cause i don't have to become physically fit and I don't have to do anything crazy like going down a chute head first. Name: Koryn Stamler Year: 3rd Program: Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting Why 5 Days?: I feel that the influences that young people have in their life during their teenage years plays a major impact on how the rest of their life evolves. I feel it is our responsibility to help younger generations who are less fortunate, off the wrong path and onto the right path that will lead them to a brighter future. If you could compete in the Winter Olympics, what discipline would it be and why? Bobsled. Why? I can use my amazing driving skills on ice and wear cool outfits.
Name: Daniel Haberstock Year: 3rd Program: Bachelor of Commerce, Strategic Management & Operations Why 5 Days?: Participating in 5 Days gives me the opportunity to at least in part, walk in someone else's shoes. Fully realizing how much I have, taking 5 days to put myself out there to raise awareness and funds for those less fortunate is something that won`t be easy but definitely worth it and necessary. If you could compete in the Winter Olympics, what discipline would it be and why? Aerial freestyle skiing- Pulling awesome stunts while you pretty much fly, what`s not amazing about that?!
Name: Nathan Petersen Year:3rd Program: Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting Why 5 Days?: It pains me to see youth struggling to meet their daily needs and I know that I have so much to be thankful for. Five Days for the Homeless really hits home for me because I believe that youth do not deserve to be in a situation of poverty. No one can argue that a 13 year old child has the ability to make life choices that will better their financial position. Those kids need our help, and Five Days is one way I can support them. This campaign has forced me to face the question "What do I take for Granted?" If you could compete in the Winter Olympics, what discipline would it be and why? Without a doubt, I would play curling! Not only do I love the game and the strategy it involves, but then I could come home everyday and say "I shouldn't have to clean the house, I just spent all day sweeping!"
Name: Dave Grant Year: 5th Program: Bachelor of Commerce, Human Resource Management Why 5 Days?: Because I have lived all my life in inner city Edmonton, gone to school there for Elementary, Junior High, and High School and still live there today. I have see firsthand everyday that youth are living in poverty, and while my parents provided me with what I needed to be successful in school and go to University not everyone has that opportunity. I want to do something to help youth, to get that opportunity for support and help that I received, and I believe YESS can provide that so I am going to do my bit to help support YESS. If you could compete in the Winter Olympics, what discipline would it be and why? I think everybody's dream is to be Sidney Crosby right now, that is just kind of a given. So to be different I would say short-track speed skating because it is so exciting, I mean who wasn’t on their feet for the finish of the 500M short track finals when Charles Hamlin won Gold?
