| March 14th-19th, 2010 are our Five Days | | Professor on the streets Mahesh Sharma One of our most dedicated professors at the John Molson School of Business slept outside for the third year in a row. Mahesh Sharma is turning 73 years old at the end of March and has never backed down from a challenge, even if it means sleeping outside in minus 20 celicius. To make your contribution online please click here Campaign InformationDuring the five day campaign students from across the country will be making personal sacrifices to make their community a better place. Students will forgo their comforts and live outside, effectively homeless, on their respective campus for five full days and nights. The campaign is fairly simple. The participants will: - Remain on campus for 5 days.
The campaign begins 5 PM Sunday March 14th, 2010 and ends 5 PM Friday March 19th, 2010. - Have no income.
100% of the funds donated to participants are passed on to each regions respective charity cause. - Have no food or drinks.
Food can only be received through direct donations, and all non perishable food must be held and donated. - Have only a pillow and a sleeping bag.
These items can be exchanged for an emergency meal. - Have no access to showers, or facilities to which their student status would usually grant them access.
Washrooms can only be accessed when campus buildings are open. - Sleep outside.
The only exception is if inclement weather becomes a health risk. - Attend all classes.
Participants will complete all academic responsibilities, including student organizations and teaching positions. - Avoid personal communication mediums.
Participants will be expected to not use cell phones, or online social networking websites (Facebook, etc) during the five days campaign except for the purposes of promoting the campaign. Each region is required to have one cell phone for safety purposes. - Write about their experiences.
Participants’ experiences will be posted on an online blog available through this website.

My Night on the Street - Tuesday March 16, 2010Last night I slept out (sort of) with the Concordia University 5 Days for the Homeless Crew and I must say it wasn’t easy. People pass you by and ignore you, some say rude things and then thankfully there are others who stop and listen to what you have to say and make a donation.
The sounds of the night are not comforting. From footsteps on the sidewalk to cars screeching by, the sounds of sirens and the people yelling in the street only emphasize the isolation and lack of safety that the young must feel living on the street.
Lying on the sidewalk I realized from that vantage point that passersby have to look down to see me, which puts someone at a disadvantage from the start. It is true that this experience cannot possibly duplicate what it truly is like to be homeless, but the 5 Days for the Homeless Crews across the country are making a difference in the lives of other young people who are perhaps not as fortunate, and for that they should be commended.
Please support their efforts and be a part of something good and decent.
